Orlando, FL – The chess world is gearing up for an exciting weekend as the SuperNationals VIII, hosted by US Chess, descends on the Orange County Convention Center from May 8–11, 2025. This quadrennial event combines the National High School (K-12), Middle School (K-8), and Elementary (K-6) Chess Championships, drawing thousands of young players, families, and chess enthusiasts to Orlando, Florida.

From kindergarteners to high school seniors, competitors will battle across multiple divisions, including Championship and lower-rated sections like K-12 Under 1800 and K-1. The event kicks off with side tournaments on Thursday, May 8, including the Bughouse Championship, Blitz Championship, and the US Chess National Puzzle Championship in partnership with ChessKid. The main tournaments begin Friday, May 9, following a vibrant Opening Ceremony at 11:00 AM in Hall WA4, with seven rounds of intense competition culminating in Awards Ceremonies on Sunday, May 11.

Beyond the boards, SuperNationals VIII offers a rich lineup of activities. Grandmaster Susan Polgar will host lectures, book signings, and simultaneous exhibitions, while NM Bryan Tillis, US Chess Communications Manager, leads a fundraising simul. Educational seminars, such as “Building School Chess Programs” and “Preparing for International Youth Events,” will empower coaches and players. A Friends and Family Tournament, ChessKid lectures, and “All Comers” Grandmaster Blitz events ensure fun for all attendees. Fans can catch top boards via live streams on uschess.live and twitch.com.

The West Concourse will buzz with additional attractions, including a Chess Store, Apparel Vendor, and a World Chess Hall of Fame Exhibit in Hall WA3, alongside a Girls Club Room in Room 109A to support female players. Chess Control stations in Halls WA1 and WA4 will keep the event running smoothly.

“SuperNationals VIII is a celebration of scholastic chess, bringing together young talent from across the nation,” said a US Chess spokesperson. “It’s not just about competition—it’s about community, learning, and inspiring the next generation of players.”
