The event gathers nearly 140 players coming from 34 European federations, including 7 Grandmasters, 22 Woman Grandmasters, 25 International Masters and 20 Woman International Masters. The top seeded players are GM Nino Batsiashvili (GEO, 2473), IM Teodora Injac (SRB, 2454), IM Meri Arabidze (GEO, 2447), IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE, 2445), IM Dinara Wagner (GER, 2440), IM Olga Badelka (AUT, 2429), IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO, 2429), GM Anna Ushenina (UKR, 2428), GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL, 2426), and GM Bella Khotenashvili (GEO, 2418). European Women’s Chess Championship 2024 was won by IM Ulviyya Fataliyeva (AZE, 2387) who will be defending her title, which she won last year in the same venue. Live games with computer analysis / List of European Women Chess Champions

The Championship will be played in 11 rounds, swiss system, with the time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, plus 30 minutes until the end of the game, with 30-second increment for each move, starting from move one. The European Women’s Chess Championship 2025 is a qualification event for the FIDE Women’s World Chess Cup. According to the decision of the ECU, at least 10 players will qualify.

The total prize fund of the event is 60.000 EUR, with 10.000 EUR reserved for the Winner. Live broadcast of the games together with commentaries by GM Alojzije Jankovic and Dragana Nikolovska can be followed through the ECU TV platform, or the ECU YouTube channel.

Organized by the European Chess Union, it is one of the major events in the European calendar.

The first historic champion is the Natalia Zhukova (Ukraine). She won the first ever EIWCC in Batumi, Georgia. Later she repeated this success in Chavki, Georgia, in 2015. Other double title holders are Kateryna Lahno, Tatiana Kosintseva, and Pia Cramling. The record for most titles is currently held by Valentina Gunia with 3 trophies.

The reigning champion as of March 2025 is Ulviyya Fataliyeva, who will be defending her title in the European Women Chess Championship 2025 in Rhodes, Greece.

Shusha Chess 2022 – All information https://www.chessdom.com/shusha-chess-2022-all-information/ Sun, 18 Sep 2022 08:54:49 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=82393 The international chess tournament “Shusha Chess 2022”, dedicated to the 190th anniversary of prominent poet and philanthropist Khurshidbanu Natavan, will be held in Shusha, Azerbaijan from 21-25 September. The event is organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Azerbaijan Republic and the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, and features the total prize fund of 88.000$.

The event will be played in two categories – Open and Women, with 10 invited players competing in each tournament.. The Open event gathers 10 world-known grandmasters: World No 10 Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, World No 15 Teimour Radjabov, as well as Gadir Guseinov, Rauf Mamedov, Vasif Durarbayli, Wang Hao, Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, Parham Maghsoodloo, Rustam Kasimdzhanov, and Mustafa Yilmaz.

Shusha Chess 2022 (Women’s section) LIVE games

The events consist of Rapid and Blitz portions, with 10-player round-robin Rapid tournament with time control of 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment. The Blitz portion will be played in 9 round-robin rounds, with each round consisting of two games mini matches. Time control for Blitz will be 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment.

For winning the game in the Rapid portion of the tournament, players will earn 2 points, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. Players will earn 1 point for a win, 1/2 for a draw and 0 points for a loss in Blitz mini matches. The winner of each category of “Shusha Chess 2022” is determined by the total points scored in the rapid and blitz tournaments.

The total prize fund of the event is 88.000$, with 15.000$ reserved for the Winner of the Open section and 10.000$ for the Winner of the Women’s section. See the table of prizes below

Monika Socko wins European Women’s Chess Championship 2022 https://www.chessdom.com/monika-socko-wins-european-womens-chess-championship-2022/ Thu, 01 Sep 2022 16:13:06 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=81519 The 2022 European Individual Women’s Chess Championship concluded yesterday in Prague, Czech Republic. More than 120 players from 28 European federations competed over 11 swiss rounds for the title of European Champion and 9 qualification spots for the next FIDE Women’s World Cup.

GM Monika Socko (POL, 2423) claimed the European Women’s Chess Championship scoring 8.5 points. Socko secured the sole first place with a draw in the last round against IM Lilit Mkrtchian (ARM, 2362).

IM Gunay Mammadzada (AZE, 2466) needed a victory in the last round to join Monika Socko on the top. After more than 4 hours of play, Gunay Mammadzada drew against IM Aleksandra Maltsevskaya (POL, 2360) to score 8 points and be in the group of five players who tied for silver medal. Mammadzada had the best tiebreak criteria and clinched silver.

WGM Ulviyya Fataliyeva (AZE, 2413) won bronze with the same score of 8 points, and better tiebreaks than IM Lilit Mkrtchian (ARM, 2362) who came fourth, IM Aleksandra Maltsevskaya (POL, 2360) who finished fifth, and IM Irina Bulmaga (ROU, 2403) who came sixth. Scroll down for final standings

The Closing ceremony of the event took place yesterday evening and it was broadcasted live. ECU President Mr. Zurab Azmapairashvili addressed the players and joined the awarding ceremony.

Monika Socko (POL, 2423) drew in the ninth round against WGM Fataliyeva Ulviyya (AZE, 2413) to maintain the sole leadership with only two rounds to go.

IM Gunay Mammadzada (AZE, 2466) holds the second place with 7 points, while seven players tie for the third place scoring 6.5 points, each: GM Elina Danielian (ARM, 2441), WGM Ulviyya Fataliyeva (AZE, 2413), IM Gulnar Mammadova (AZE, 2380), WGM Maria Gevorgyan (ARM, 2216), IM Aleksandra Maltsevskaya (POL, 2360), IM Lilit Mkrtchian (ARM, 2362), and IM Inna Gaponenko (UKR, 2339).

There are 107 titled players, with 7 Grandmasters, 21 International masters, 23 Women Grandmasters, 28 Women International masters and a total of 108 titled players. The top seeded players are Nana Dzagnidze, Lela Javakhishvili, Antoaneta Stefanova, Nino Batsiashvili, Gunay Mammadzada, Elina Danielian, Monika Socko, Anna Ushenina, Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Jolanta Zawadzka, Mai Narva, Nurgyul Salimova, Irina Bulmaga, Sophie Milliet, Teodora Injac, Stavroula Tsolakidou. The event will be played in 11 rounds, Swiss system, with time control 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from /move one. The 2022 European Individual Women Chess Championship is a qualification event for the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2023. According to the FIDE regulations and the ECU Board decision, 9 players will qualify. Total Prize fund of the event is 60,000 euros with 10,000 reserved for the Winner of the event.

Chief Arbiter of the event is IA Jirina Prokopova, deputy Chief Arbiters – IA Thomas Strobl, IA Jan Sikora, and the members of the Appeal Committee – Geert Bailleul, Petr Pisk, Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou.

The team with an average FIDE rating of 2683 will be captained by GM Nijat Abasov with GM Eltaj Safarli as the coach of the squad. Interestingly, the 2021 Azerbijan Chess Champion Vasif Durarbayli made it to the Olympic National Team after 16 years.
