Grenke Chess 2025 is a massive chess event that takes place 17-21 April in Germany (live games / information and schedule). Among the many strong players is Alexander Grischuk, who gave an interview for the organizers.

Alexander Grischuk says that freestyle chess removes this “this idiotic 6 hours preparation for the game.” He adds, “Classical is my least preferred format, it is either blitz, rapid of freestyle”.

The Austrian Chess Bundesliga 2024/25 is taking place from October 9 to October 13 in Linz, Austria. There are 2 legs in the competition – one in October 2024 and one in April 2025. The tournament features 226 players who will play 9 rounds of team Swiss. Julius Baer Generation Cup 2024 finals are going start this September 25. It is the final leg of the 2024 Champions Chess Tour. GMs Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave have already secured their spots in the finals, but several more places remain up for grabs. Players can qualify by either winning this event or by finishing among the top performers on the Champions Chess Tour Leaderboard.

The Aimchess Rapid, the 4th event on the $2 million 2023 Champions Chess Tour, features three Divisions of 8, 16 and 32 players. Each division is a double-elimination knockout where if you lose one match you drop down to a Losers bracket and can still win the tournament. In the Grand Final if the player from the Winners bracket loses, there’s a rematch. The total prize fund is $235,000, with a top prize of $30,000 (150 Tour points) in Division I, $10,000 in Division II (50 points) and $5,000 (20 points) in Division III. The top 3 in Division I and the winner of Division II qualify straight to Division I of the next event on the Tour. The time control for normal games is 15 minutes per player for all moves, with a 3-second increment each move. In Division I and II the Winners bracket matches are played over four games, while in the Losers bracket there are two games. In Division III all matches are over two games except the 4-game Grand Final. A tie in a match is decided by an Armageddon game with no increment, where the players bid for time they are willing to play with. The lowest bidder gets that time and can pick colour, while the opponent gets 15 minutes. Black only needs a draw to win the match.

The XXX Russian Chess Championship among men’s teams “Premier League” will take place from 01-10 May 2023 in Sochi, Russia. The XXX Russian Chess Championship among men’s teams “Premier League” will take place from 01-10 May 2023 in Sochi, Russia. Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. The tournament system will be 9-Round robin for teams. The top ten rated players are Sergey Karyakin, Alexander Grischuk, Sanan Syugirov, Daniel Dubov, Vladislav Artemiev, Ernesto Inarkiev, Eugene Najer, Vladimir Malakhov, Ivan Popov and Alexander Ryazantsev.
