He represents Germany in international competitions, including the European Team Chess Championship and the Chess Olympiad. As of September 2023, he is the No. 5 ranked German player with a FIDE rating of 2621, peaking at 2651 in May 2022. Svane learned chess at age 4 and achieved notable early success, winning the German U14 Chess Championship in 2010. He earned the International Master title in 2013 and the Grandmaster title in 2016 at age 19. His notable performances include a 2762 performance rating at the 2017 European Team Championship and contributing to Germany’s silver medal at the 2023 European Team Championship. He plays for the Hamburger SK in the German Bundesliga and has also competed in Danish and Austrian leagues. His younger brother, Frederik Svane, is also a grandmaster.
