F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg challenges Magnus Carlsen age 10 bot https://www.chessdom.com/f1-world-champion-nico-rosberg-challenges-magnus-carlsen-age-10-bot/ Mon, 26 Sep 2022 13:03:56 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=83040 A world-famous racing driver who clinched the World Drivers’ Championship in 2016, Nico Rosberg, yesterday joined the Julius Baer Generation Cup live studio for the celebrity charity chess challenge. Nico Rosberg played against the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen’s computer bot that simulates Carlsen’s play when he was aged 10. Rosberg had two minutes on the clock and lost to 10-year-old Magnus Carlsen bot on time after 18 played moves. Julius Baer donated 100$ per move (a total of 1800$) to “Chess in Slums” organization which helps youngsters in slum communities to realize their full potential through chess training.

Nico Rosberg revealed that he is an avid chess player and that he often played chess with his physical trainer, Michael Schumacher and his other F1 teammates. Earlier this year, we could’ve seen F1’s Mick Schumacher enjoying a chess game with the team of Haas, and it is not the first time we see popular sportsmen keeping their minds sharp by playing chess. A few to mention: Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz is using chess to up his game / Novak Djokovic plays chess with Boris Becker / Basketball NBA star Shane Battier / PAOK FC football players taking chess lessons

Magnus Carlsen convincingly won the first final match with a final result 2.5-0.5. Carlsen had a more active position with whites in the first game and continued adding pressure on his younger opponent. Arjun Erigaisi made a crucial mistake with 24…Nf8? as the evaluation engine bar showed a decisive advantage for the World Champion. The rest was technique and a beautiful mate net around Erigaisi’s king. With an aggressive approach in the second game, Carlsen scored another point though it seemed that Arjun stabilized his position for a moment. 27.Be3?? led the Indian grandmaster straight to another loss.

Erigaisi needed to win on demand in the third game to keep the first final match ongoing while the World Champion needed only half a point to score first and important victory in the finals. The former had a more pleasant position, but it wasn’t enough. Erigaisi terribly blundered in the endgame ending up in a losing position, but Magnus missed a way to win. The game finished in a draw and Carlsen took the victory in the first set of the finals. “I am far from satisfied with my play. I think there were some pretty bad moments today“, said Carlsen in the post-match interview.

S1: Magnus Carlsen vs Vincent Keymer 3-1

World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen defeated Vincent Keymer with a convincing 3-1 score. The first two games finished in a draw as Vincent Keymer played brilliantly. Carlsen won the third game since Vincent missed the only move to save the endgame with a pawn down. 81…Nc6?? was a terrible mistake, while 81…Nf5! could’ve saved the result for the 17-year-old German grandmaster. Keymer needed to win the fourth game to stay in the match and schedule the tiebreaks, but Magnus took all the initiative from the early part of the game and eventually scored. “I was very impressed with his play, he is very very strong. As you can see from the end of the game 3 and the game four, he still has some challenges with experience and practical play, but basically, he is a very good player”, said Magnus in the post-match interview.
