One of the best chess attacks ever! Equisetum-Leela, by Matthew Sadler https://www.chessdom.com/one-of-the-best-chess-attacks-ever-equisetum-leela-by-matthew-sadler/ Mon, 07 Oct 2024 00:03:17 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=94464 Great Engine Games! One of the best attacks ever! Equisetum-Leela CCC Rating Brawl This video is in the Great Engine Games series! An absolutely glorious attacking game from Equisetum against the mighty Leela Zero! Were there any pieces that weren’t en prise during the game?! Some wonderful attacking chess and some heavenly quiet moves to complete a fantastic win!

I’m grandmaster Matthew Sadler, a 2-times British Champion, and ranked in the world’s top 50 for many years. I’m also a prolific author. My latest book “Re-Engineering the Chess Classics” appeared in May 2023. Aman Hambleton checkmate in a starting position https://www.chessdom.com/aman-hambleton-checkmate-in-a-starting-position/ Sun, 06 Oct 2024 21:43:24 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=94449 Aman Hambleton achieved a beautiful checkmate in an online game. Playing against The_Machine04, Hambleton delivered a checkmate in the starting position.

With a knight up in the endgame, Aman Hambleton asks, “Are we playing this on?” He continues with a very low time on the clock and series of pre-moves to promote a queen. With just 12,5 sec on the clock, Hambleton has one knight, one queen and five pawns – just enough to promote each pawn to a different piece on the board. And this is what Hambleton does! With 4,1 secs on the clock he has two knights, two bishops, two rooks, and a queen.

Amam Hambleton continues to checkmate The_Machine04 with his pieces in the starting position! With just 0,9 sec on the clock! A game that Aman calls “My Mona Lisa”

Silicon Road: Great engine games series, by Matthew Sadler https://www.chessdom.com/silicon-road-great-engine-games-series-by-matthew-sadler/ Fri, 04 Oct 2024 18:57:27 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=94378 Silicon Road: Great Engine Games! Entrenched squares! This is the new video by GM Matthew Sadler, covering Leela-Ethereal TCEC Swiss 7

It’s a lovely opsitional squeeze from Leela starting from an opening position that suits its style down to the ground. An early (book) advance of the g-pawn in a Budapest Gambit secures Leela the f4-square for its pieces in perpetuity. Leela uses this asset beautifully to extract more and more concessions from Ethereal culminating in a tale of 2 rook’s pawns in a 2 bishops against 2 knights endgame: Leela’s rook’s pawn on h6 is invulnerable and crippling, Ethereal’s a4-pawn is weak and open to attack! The game is viewable here: https://tcec-chess.com/#div=sw&game=396&season=27
