Hikaru Nakamura after Day 1 at the 2022 Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz: It is what it is

The 2022 Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz kicked off yesterday with the three rapid rounds. Defending the 2021 STL Rapid & Blitz Champion title, Hikaru Nakamura is considered one of the favorites to win the tournament. However, after losing to Leinier Dominguez and Alireza Firouzja during the Day 1, Nakamura ties for the 7th place after three played rounds. (Day 1 recap can be found here)

Just as he did at the Candidates Tournament 2022, Nakamura publishes daily recaps of his games in Saint Louis. Commenting on a tough Day 1, Nakamura shortly commented: “It is what it is“.

Hikaru Nakamura has just finished the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 in Madrid and already published the schedule for this week’s streams. He yesterday had a Rollercoaster Rating Blitzing for 3200 online rating: “I will play six games. I will just win six games and I am gonna probably call it a day” said Hikaru. Playing an interesting position against GM Nikolas Theodorou, Nakamura added: “I am just gonna play like a proper professional chess player… Like no nonsense. I will just be very very proper about this position and just try to play a good technical chess“. See the complete video below.

Hi, my name is Calvin Klaasen, and I am a Fide Master. I am South African, 34 years old and I am a professional chess player/coach with many years of experience. I am also a twitch streamer and do instructive chess shows on www.twitch.tv/calvinklaasenchess. I love chess, studying chess, playing online and helping other players improve. I became my country’s (South Africa) national Champion in 2017 and have represented my country at multiple World Chess Olympiads. My Fide rating peaked at 2320. More about FM Peter Giannatos

Peter Giannatos grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, before moving to Charlotte in 2001. He attended James Martin Middle School and Vance High School before attending college at UNC-Charlotte.

Peter learned how to play chess at the age of 7, but did not compete in his first tournament until he was 13. In 2004, he competed in his first tournament, achieving a USCF rating of 589. With hard work and dedication, Peter achieved the expert rating (2000+ USCF) in 2008. Peter teaches students the same techniques he used to rapidly improve.

Peter earned his FIDE Master (FM) title (2300+ FIDE) in February of 2017. One of only 4 players in North Carolina history to earn that title. Peter is also a United States Chess Federation National Master (NM)/Life Master (LM), Senior Tournament Director, and FIDE International Arbiter (IA).

Peter spends most of his time at the CCCSA planning and organizing events/programs. His main focus and philosophy has always been to bring chess to a the level of other professional sports/games. . In November of 2020, he was interviewed for one of the world’s most popular chess podcasts, The Perpetual Chess Podcast.

Peter has been teaching and organizing chess for more than 10 years. Peter has a Bachelors of Science in Economics from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte.

Peter is the Founder and Director of the Charlotte Chess Center & Scholastic Academy.

The Charlotte Chess Center & Scholastic Academy (CCCSA), founded in March of 2014, serves as a place where members of all ages and skill levels can congregate and enjoy the royal game of chess. The CCCSA also has an open library of over 700 books.

The CCCSA serves as an educational hub for chess in the Charlotte area; offering camps, classes and lectures year round.

The CCCSA runs weekly and monthly chess events such as weekly rated play, special events, lectures, classes, weekend tournaments.
