Icelandic Chess Federation celebrates its 100th anniversary

On the occasion, the President of the Icelandic Chess Federation Ms. Johanna Bjorg Johannsdottir and ECU Vice President Mr. Gunnar Bjornsson invited the ECU President Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili to attend the celebration ceremony and festival dedicated to the federation’s 100th anniversary.

The Icelandic Chess Federation was founded in Blonduos on 23rd June in 1925, and to mark the centennial, the Blonduos chess festival took place with several events and the Icelandic Chess Open as the highlight with participation of almost all Iceland’s best chess players and strong grandmaster guests. The guest of honor of the festival was the President of Iceland, Mrs. Halla Tómasdóttir, who together with the ECU President Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili and distinguished guests attended the Gala dinner.
