Oscar Jack Piastri is an Australian racing driver who competes in Formula One for McLaren. Piastri has won seven Formula One Grands Prix across three seasons. It remains to be seen how many chess games he won against fellow F1 pilots.

A few days before the start of the event, Nepo was declined entry visa for the UK and missed the rapid event, won by MGD1. Nepo re-applied for visa and was allowed entry in the country for the blitz part of the competition, taking board 1 for WR Chess for the entire event. WR Chess won the FIDE World Blitz Team Championship and Nepo celebrated the title by posting on Twitter/X, “Despite my best effort, WR Team won Blitz section. Congrats!”

Absolute leader is Garry Kasparov, with the top prize fund figure being the Kasparov – Karpov World Chess Championship of 1990 with 5,7 million USD. Kasparov holds the second and third positions as well. Kasparov – Short from 1993 stands at 4,7 million USD, while his 1987 World Chess Championship match with Karpov stands at 3,5 million USD.

However, the real unparalleled achievement on this list is the one of Bobby Fischer. His match with Spassky from 1972 achieved a whole order of magnitude increase to prize funds. Until then money for matches were maximum in the hundreds of thousands, while he brought the figure above 1 million USD (1,6 million, to be precise). To achieve the same success, someone has to bring the prize funds for World Championships from millions to tens of millions USD.

Anish Giri’s opinion differs from the one of the bodyguard of Hans Niemann , but sums up the overall sentiment of the chess fans. Giri, who signed with Esports club Team Secret, ahead of the Esports World Chess Cup 2025 is scheduled to play Sharjah Masters 2025 this month of May.

The story he tell with a friend starts with Hamilton saying the awkward statement, “We were both in bed… playing chess” Leclerc quickly had to revert, “Not in the same bed! He was in London and I was in Monaco! And we were playing chess.”

Hamilton is impressed by Leclerc’s chess strength, goes online and finds a bot to help him. Literally that is cheating. But in a quick twist of the story, it turns out that they are both cheating and the games turn into bot vs bot. A fellow suggestion to both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc – next time you want to do this, go watch the Top Chess Engine Championship!
