The twins Raphael and Lionel Gut playing for the school chess professionals (DSSP) provided a show in the U16 premier class. For the first time in the history of the Swiss chess, a tie-break between two brothers occurred in the fight for a championship title. They had 5,5 points out of seven rounds each (Raphael Gut drew against Marc Cristian Arsenie [SK Bern/3], his brother and Emanuel Angelovski [SC Seebach/4.], Lionel Gut played against Suvirr Malli [SK Olten/8.], his brother and also against Angelovski), they had to stand against each other for gold and silver.

In the first two tiebreak games with 10 minutes plus 10 seconds the twins divided the points. In the blitz games of 5 minutes plus 3 seconds, Raphael won 2:0.

New Laws of Chess and Swiss Rules lecture on Internet https://www.chessdom.com/new-laws-of-chess-and-swiss-rules-lecture-on-internet/ Tue, 09 May 2017 22:22:20 +0000 http://www.chessdom.com/?p=62980 Official FIDE logoAfter the approval by the 1st quarter 2017 FIDE Presidential Board of the New Laws of Chess and the New Swiss Rules to be in effect from 1 July 2017, the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission, in cooperation with the FIDE Rules Commission and the FIDE Systems of Pairings and Programs Commission, organized a lecture, in order to present to the Arbiters the new Laws of Chess and the new Swiss Rules that will be in effect from 1 July 2017.

The lecture was held on Internet, on 2nd May, 18.00-22.00 Greek Time (GMT+3), in English language.

The Lecturer was IA Takis Nikolopoulos (GRE), Chairman of the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission and the Technical Organizer was IA Mihail Prevenios (GRE).

During the lecture the changes of the new Laws of Chess, as well as the changes of the new Swiss Rules that will be in effect from 1 July 2017 were discussed.

Forty three (43) Arbiters from thirty three (33) Federations participated in the Lecture (list below).

In the next period three (3) more lectures with the same subjects will be held on Internet in different languages. The lectures will be held on Internet as follows:

(a) In Russian language, 17 May 2017, 13.00-17.00, Moscow Time (GMT+3).
The Lecturer will be IA Ashot Vardapetyan (ARM), Chairman of the FIDE Rules Commission and FIDE Lecturer and the Technical Organizer will be IA Mihail Prevenios (GRE), FIDE Lecturer.

(b) In Spanish language, 23 May 2017, 18.00-22.00, Madrid Time (GMT+1).
The Lecturer will be IA Jesus Mena (ESP), Councilor of the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission and FIDE Lecturer and the Technical Organizer will be IA Mihail Prevenios (GRE), FIDE Lecturer.

(c) In Arabic language, 25 May 2017, 18.00-22.00, Dubai Time (GMT+4).

The 114 Individual Swiss Chess Championship took place from 27th September to 10th October 2014 in Bern, the capital of Switzerland ranked among the world’s top ten cities for the best quality of life.

GM Yannick Pelletier won the event with 7/9 points and lifted the trophy for  fifth time after winning the Swiss Championships in 1995, 2000, 2002 and 2010.

Second place was split by IM Roland Loetscher and GM Vadim Milov on 6,5 points, but Loetscher prevailed on a better tie-break score. The silver medalist fulfilled his first GM norm playing at ELO performance 2630 and adding 26 ELO points to his rating.

The former World champion for women GM Alexandra Kosteniuk took clear fourth place with 5,5 points, followed  IM Nico Georgadis (4,5/9), IM Martin Balamnn (4/9), IM Markus Klauser (3/9), IM Oliver Kurmann (3/9), IM Beat Zueger (3/9)  and IM Andreas Huss (2/9).

The 47th Biel Chess Festival 2014 included a 11-round Swiss Master Tournament that was taking part on 14-25th July 2014.

Indian GM Adhiban emerged a clear winner with 8,5/11 points, defeating Turkish GM Dragan Solak with black pieces in the last round and deservedly grabbed the first prize of 7.000 CHF.

Second place was shared in a seven-way tie by GM Victor Mikhalevski (ISR), GM Mateusz Bartel (POL), GM Aleksandr Rakhmanov (RUS), GM Samuel Shankland (USA), GM Benjamin Bok (NED), GM Dariusz Swiercz (POL) and GM Viktor Erdos (HUN) on 7,5 points each, but Mikhalevski and Bartel took the silver and bronze on superior tie-break score.

The Swiss championship U18 was a part of the Master Tournament.

FM Studer Noel lifted the trophy among youth with 6.5/11 points and 21st place in the Master Tournament.

Second place was shared by FM Lars Rindlisbacher, Grandadam Patrik and Hoang,Harry on 6 points each, but Rindlisbacher claimed second on superior tie-break score.
