A tournament called Battle of Champions 2025 will be held, jointly organized by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the National Carpet Museum. Battle of Champions 2025 is a match between a top chess player of Azerbaijan vs a world renowned player. The match is parallel to Baku Open 2025.
In the men’s match local top player GM Rauf Mamedov, who recently played the Grenke Freestyle, will meet GM Rustam Kasimdzhanov. In the women’s match IM Gunay Mammadzada will play with World Champion GM Antoaneta Stefanova. Both matches consist of six rounds rapid and ten rounds blitz.
